About John

John Bolton is one of New Zealand’s most respected voices in property finance. After a decade in senior banking, he founded Squirrel in 2008 with a vision to build a fairer financial system and better homes for Kiwis.
Since its beginnings in 2008, Squirrel has grown into one of the country’s largest mortgage brokerages and most trusted non-bank lenders, known for straight-talking advice and pragmatic funding solutions.
Having developed, traded, and funded property himself, JB knows first-hand the risks and realities of development. He combines that experience with market foresight and a candid style that continues to set Squirrel apart.
When he’s not helping reshape New Zealand’s financial system, JB can usually be found skiing (a little too fast) or eating sashimi. And naturally, his favourite colour is orange.
